How to choose a dentist in Antalya

Seven steps, in the order you'll meet them, from your first message to the day you book your flights.

Short answer

Choose on evidence, not on the lowest price: check the clinic's Ministry authorisation on HealthTürkiye, find out who will treat you, get a written and itemised plan after an X-ray, ask for the implant brand and the guarantee in writing, and agree what happens if something goes wrong once you're home. Walk away from a hard sell or pressure to decide quickly.

1. Decide what you need before you choose where

Implants, All-on-6, veneers and crowns are different treatments with different risks. Read about the treatment first, then look for a clinic that does a lot of it. The NHS advises basing the decision on the quality of care, not on how appealing the destination seems for a holiday.

2. Check the clinic's licence

Look the clinic up on HealthTürkiye, the Ministry of Health's portal for international patients. Its page shows the clinic's authorisation number. See how to check a Turkish dentist.

3. Find out who will treat you

Ask for the name of the dentist who will plan and carry out your treatment, and where they trained. The Oral Health Foundation suggests finding out where the dentist is trained and registered, and checking they are legally allowed to practise in that country.

4. Get a written plan and price after an X-ray

A serious clinic will want to see a panoramic X-ray or a 3D scan before giving a firm price. The plan should list each tooth, each implant, the materials and the price, and say what is not included.

5. Ask about the implant brand and the guarantee

Ask which implant brand and model will be used, and whether you'll get an implant passport. Ask for the guarantee in writing: how long it lasts for each treatment, what it covers, and whether you have to return to Antalya to use it.

6. Agree what happens if something goes wrong

Ask who pays for extra travel, hotel or corrective work if there's a problem, and what aftercare the clinic offers once you're home.

7. Compare like with like

Put two written plans side by side: same treatment, same brand, same materials, same guarantee. Only then compare the prices. See Antalya dental prices compared.

Warning signs

  • A hard sell, or pressure to decide or pay quickly.
  • A firm price before anyone has seen an X-ray.
  • No mention of possible complications or of aftercare.
  • Healthy teeth suddenly "need" crowns.
  • No named dentist, or the dentist changes without explanation.

The first three are on the NHS's own list of warning signs.

Common questions

Is it safe to have dental treatment in Antalya?

Many UK patients are treated in Antalya without problems, but there are risks with any treatment abroad. GOV.UK reports that some British nationals have had complications after medical procedures in Türkiye and needed further treatment. Choosing a licensed clinic, a named dentist and a written plan reduces the risk.

Should I get a second opinion?

Yes, if you can. The NHS recommends speaking to a GP, dentist or clinician before going abroad. A UK dentist can look at the plan you've been sent.

How long should I take to decide?

As long as you need. Pressure to decide quickly is one of the NHS warning signs.
